The Sanctuary Steward Docent Program is the main citizen action arm of Save Our Shores
Sanctuary Stewards are part of a dynamic team dedicated to protecting the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
Our Stewards bring a diversity of experience, skills, and perspectives to our organization. They are at the heart of all of our work.
The Sanctuary Steward Program prepares citizens to become educators, advocates, and experts on issues affecting the Monterey Bay such as such as pollution prevention, habitat conservation and fisheries. 
During the training course, Stewards receive a professional-level education from highly renowned Marine Biologists and Conservationists. And each Steward makes a personal pledge to volunteer 50 volunteer hours that year. Our Stewards host beach clean-ups, make presentations, and represent Save Our Shores at special events. Who are the Stewards?
People from all walks of life: retirees, business folks, full-time professionals, dedicated parents, and college students. We are looking for leaders. We need volunteers willing to lead clean-up events and host tables at community festivals. Anyone under the age of 16 must have an adult partner to volunteer with. Parent/child teams are encouraged to apply.
Anyone enthusiastic about the ocean and interested in working with the public is invited to apply!
How To Apply:
We will accept applications for the Santa Cruz training program up until February 15, 2012. For the Monterey training, applications will be accepted up until March 16, 2012.

The Steward Course
- The Steward course runs from February 21 - April 10, 2012.
- Classes take place every Tuesday, 6:30-8:30pm, at the First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz on High Street.
- An alternate Stewards training will be offered in Monterey, April-May 2012.
